Grade Calculator
A simple tool to work out your average from grades and coefficients, with a full explanation of how the average is calculated in Massar.
Enter each subject’s grade (out of 20) and its coefficient to get your weighted average automatically. Everything is calculated in your browser — nothing is sent anywhere.
Your average
—
Add at least one subject to see your average.
Average = sum of (grade × coefficient) ÷ sum of coefficients.
How to use the grade calculator
- Add a row for each subject with the “Add subject” button.
- Type the subject name (optional), then the grade you got out of 20.
- Enter the subject’s coefficient as set for your school level.
- Your average updates automatically at the top of the page as you edit the values.
What is the average in Massar?
Your average is the mean of your grades, weighted by coefficients. In the Massar system, continuous-assessment and exam grades are entered for each subject, and an average is computed that reflects your overall performance. Because subjects aren’t equally important, each one has a coefficient that sets its weight in the average.
How the weighted average is calculated
The rule is simple:
Average = sum of (grade × coefficient) ÷ sum of coefficients
Here’s a worked example (numbers for illustration only):
| Subject | Grade (/20) | Coefficient | Grade × Coeff. |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mathematics | 14 | 7 | 98 |
| Physics & Chemistry | 12 | 5 | 60 |
| Arabic | 15 | 2 | 30 |
| French | 11 | 2 | 22 |
Sum of (grade × coefficient) = 98 + 60 + 30 + 22 = 210. Sum of coefficients = 7 + 5 + 2 + 2 = 16. So the average = 210 ÷ 16 = 13.13 out of 20.
Term average vs annual average
The term average is computed from the subject grades of a single term (semester). The annual average combines the two term averages. The exact way they’re combined varies slightly by level, but the principle stays the same: weighting by coefficients. For a fuller explanation of reading your grades, see the grades & results guide.
The pass mark
Grades are out of 20, and the general pass threshold is usually 10/20. Additional conditions may apply by level (such as a minimum mark in some subjects), and the rules can change from one year to the next.
